How Much Does Tree Pruning & Trimming Cost in NZ?

Small trees and formative pruning - fruit trees, ornamentals, young trees and light shaping with good access - typically start from around $150–$400. These are often a quick job for a small crew.

Established residential trees needing a proper prune, thin or crown lift generally range from $400–$1,200. The price depends on the species, the height, how much material comes off, and whether we can chip the offcuts on-site or need to haul them away.

Large or mature trees - crown reductions, big thinning jobs, or anything needing climbing and rigging over houses, fences or gardens - can run from $1,200 to $3,000 or more. These take a full crew, specialist gear and time, done to proper arboricultural standards.

Ongoing maintenance - regular visits to keep the same trees in shape - usually works out cheaper per visit than a one-off rescue prune, because there's less to remove each time.

Green waste and chipping is sometimes included and sometimes charged separately depending on volume. We always make that clear in the quote - no surprises.

A quick note on 'topping': we don't lop trees back to stubs to save time - it damages the tree and causes weak, unsafe regrowth. Proper pruning cuts cost a little more up front but keep the tree healthy and safe long-term.
