Question 1

Do I need council consent to remove a tree in Waikato?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your council and the tree. Many trees in the Waikato region are protected under district plans - particularly large natives, street trees, and trees in notable areas. We advise on this during your free onsite assessment and can prepare arborist reports for consent applications if required. Councils we cover include Waipā District, Hamilton City, Matamata-Piako, and Waikato District.

Question 2

How much does tree removal cost?

Accepted Answer

Every job is different - the cost depends on the size of the tree, its location, access, what's underneath it, and what you want done with the timber and green waste. The only way to give you an accurate price is to come and have a look. We offer free, no-obligation onsite quotes across all of Waikato.

Question 3

How quickly can you get to me for a quote?

Accepted Answer

We aim to get out for quotes within a few days. For urgent situations - like storm damage or a tree that's posing immediate risk - call us directly on 022 167 1268 and we'll prioritise getting to you.

Question 4

Do you offer 24-hour emergency callout?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you have a tree down on your house, blocking access, or posing an immediate safety risk, call us any time on 022 167 1268. We're available 24 hours for genuine emergencies across all of Waikato.

Question 5

Are you qualified arborists?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Touch Wood Tree Care is operated by qualified, certified arborists. We hold the relevant industry qualifications and insurance. We take safety seriously - for ourselves, your property, and the public.

Question 6

What areas do you service?

Accepted Answer

We're based in Cambridge and service all of Waikato - including Hamilton, Te Awamutu, Matamata, Morrinsville, Huntly, Ngaruawahia, Raglan, and surrounding areas. If you're not sure whether we cover your area, just call and we'll confirm.

Question 7

Do you remove the wood and green waste?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we can take everything away and leave the site clean. Alternatively, if you'd like to keep the firewood or wood chips, we can arrange that too. Just let us know when we come to quote.

Question 8

Can you grind out the stump after tree removal?

Accepted Answer

Yes - stump grinding is one of our services. We can grind stumps down below ground level so the area can be lawn'd, paved, or replanted over. This can be done at the time of removal or as a separate job.

Question 9

What's the difference between tree removal and tree felling?

Accepted Answer

Tree felling is the controlled dropping of a tree in one piece - typically used where there's enough clear space for the tree to fall safely. Tree removal usually refers to sectional dismantling, where the tree is taken down piece by piece from the top - used when space is limited, near structures, or over fences. We assess each situation and use whichever method is safest.

Question 10

Can you prune or shape my trees without removing them?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Pruning and trimming is a big part of what we do - whether it's crown lifting, deadwooding, thinning, or shaping for aesthetics. We won't cut what doesn't need cutting. We give straight-up advice on what's actually needed.

Question 11

Do you work on lifestyle blocks and farms?

Accepted Answer

Yes - rural and lifestyle properties are a significant part of our work. We handle large shelter belt management, farm tree removals, firewood processing, and rural land clearing across Waikato.

Question 12

Can you provide an arborist report for my insurance or council?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can provide written arborist assessments and reports for council consent applications, insurance claims, property disputes, or general tree risk assessments. Contact us to discuss what's needed.
